A common mistake local businesses make is assuming that Reddit is too global and generates traffic “from the other side of the world.” In reality, the platform can be a highly effective channel for attracting local customers, as this case clearly demonstrates.

Client

Local wedding salon (engagement rings / wedding services), New York.

Goal

To generate leads exclusively from one city, without irrelevant traffic from other regions or countries.

Task

Attract brides and couples specifically from New York who are searching for engagement rings, while filtering out non-target traffic from other regions.

  • Location: New York, USA
  • Platform: Reddit, r/WedditNYC (a community dedicated exclusively to weddings in New York)

Strategy

We identified a narrowly local subreddit, r/WedditNYC, where the audience is already geographically limited, and launched a thread with a direct, highly relatable question: where couples in New York look for engagement rings.

Our team focused the content and comments on local decision-making scenarios, mentions of neighborhoods, stores, service formats, and localized commercial keywords. We warmed up the discussion to stable activity without direct advertising at the initial stage.

The content was adapted to local scenarios, neighborhoods, and commercial queries.

Result

The thread reached the TOP of Google for local queries with NYC geo-targeting, and keywords with clear city- and district-level geography appeared in the rankings. We received highly relevant “hot” traffic: users from New York who were already at the decision-making stage for purchasing jewelry.

The thread ranked in Google’s TOP for local semantics with NYC geo-targeting.

Why it worked

Reddit includes local communities with already pre-filtered audiences. When we add a location-based keyword (for example, NYC) directly to the thread title, Google quickly reads this geo-marker in combination with the subreddit name and the content itself. As a result, a single local thread can replace dozens of weak pages on a website.

Conclusion

Reddit allows targeting not only by niche, but also by a specific city. With the right local community and semantic strategy, the platform becomes an effective channel for local SEO and warm lead generation, eliminating irrelevant reach.
