IT is one of the most overheated niches in marketing. Cost per click (CPC) in Google Ads is extremely high, and organic promotion of a proprietary website can take years. Reddit offers a shorter path, and we used it in this case.

Client

IT services, app development agency, SaaS (global market).

Goal

Achieve stable visibility in Google for commercial IT keywords and generate leads from Reddit without direct advertising or losing traffic to competitors.

Niche specifics

IT is one of the most competitive categories, where any thread about finding a contractor instantly attracts dozens of agencies. Direct competitors appear in the comments, and even if the post ranks at the top of Google, the client sees more than just you.

Task

Bring mobile app development services to the top of search results and ensure maximum brand visibility for target queries.

  • Niche: IT services / App Development
  • Platform: Reddit, r/appdev

Strategy: Stage One

To attract potential clients, we launched a thread in r/appdev asking about finding a partner for app development. The topic was aligned with the target audience’s pain points to quickly generate activity. As soon as the thread reached around 10 comments, it started ranking in Google.

We ensured the service mention appeared simultaneously in Top, Best, and New, so potential clients could see the company regardless of the sorting option.

Service mentions are закреплены in Top, Best, and New, making the brand visible regardless of Reddit feed filters.

Limitations of placing mentions in an open subreddit

This approach inevitably attracts competitors. You also have no control over which comments remain visible, and the brand has to share attention with other agencies.

Strategy: Scaling stage

The next logical step we proposed to the client was moving from working within third-party communities to creating their own subreddit:

  • as a standalone brand media channel;
  • with full moderation control;
  • without aggressive competitor presence.

We have already started working on filling the subreddit with content and integrating commercial queries. This ensures stable visibility in Google and minimizes competition from other brands. It also allows publishing only audience-relevant content, without noise from direct competitor advertising.

In parallel, we launched work on branded semantics (reviews, comparisons, user experience). We integrate competitor mentions only where necessary for natural discussion, gradually pushing “extra” brands out of future Google search results. This approach not only strengthens the semantic value of threads, but also builds long-term SEO presence: Google indexes subreddit pages without unnecessary brands in the SERP.

Result

The client achieved stable organic traffic for both local and branded queries, with a clear path toward launching their own subreddit.

Stable organic traffic for both local and branded keywords.

Conclusion

Reddit works for IT and SaaS, but in this niche it’s not enough to simply reach the top — you need to control the environment. If the strategic goal is stable visibility across all commercial keywords without competition in the SERP, having your own subreddit stops being an option and becomes a must-have.
